Sample questions from a test set by the Biro Tatanegara we had to sit for on the last day – and pass – in order to complete our induction:
1. Kerajaan berjaya mengatasi kegawatan ekonomi 1997/1998.
(Duh.)
2. Menara KL, menara Petronas, dan Multimedia Super Corridor merupakan
A. pembaziran wang rakyat.
B. (insert obviously wrong answer here)
C. mercu tanda kejayaan dasar-dasar ekonomi negara.
D. (insert obviously wrong answer here)
This was a no-brainer. Really. NO-brainer.
I actually had to think for the next question, though, because the 1st time round I’d circled D before realising the (expected) answer was A:
A. masih relevan kerana negara masih banyak menghadapi ancaman dalaman.
Throughout the session, the representative from the Biro Tatanegara repeated this point, “Saya tahu, persepsi orang tentang Biro Tatanegara ialah kita adalah anjing-anjing politik. Sebenarnya, tidak. Kita tak menyokong mana-mana parti kerajaan. Kita cuma bertujuan untuk mewujudkan semangat patriotisme dan sokongan untuk dasar-dasar kerajaan.”
4. Selepas 45 dekad negara dijajah, akhirnya negara kita mencapai kemerdekaan. Pertubuhan manakah yang memainkan PERANAN PENTING mencapai kemerdekaan?
A. Parti Perikatan.
B. Parti Negara.
C. Independent Malaya Party.
D. PAS.
Yes, of course the BTN is not there to bolster any political party. As evidenced by other clearly politically-neutral questions such as:
5. Kebijaksanaan pemimpin bermaksud segala keputusan pemimpin
i. mengambil kira kesan jangka masa pendek dan panjang.
ii. melaksanakan dasar mengikut acuan yang betul.
iii. bijak memanipulasikan isu semasa untuk kepentingan parti.
iv. menerima campur tangan asing.
i. bukan budaya rakyat Malaysia
ii. memberi kesan buruk kepada ekonomi.
iii. memberi gambaran buruk terhadap keselamatan negara.
iv. menjejaskan industri pelancongan negara.
Clearly, CLEARLY, all of the above.
Immediately after we handed in our answer-sheets, we were given forms to register as voters. Which the representative would then process for us, apparently. Quick off the mark, there. Why, how long do so-glaringly-obvious-you-might-as-well-just-go-ahead-and-hit-me-over-the-head-with-a-REALLY-thick-book subliminal messages last for?
And we come to the end of possibly my last anti-establishment post. For the next 2 years, at least. You’ll have to get your jollies watching someone else commit career-suicide.

U poor thing!
don’t tell me u remembered all the questions!! That’s just sad!!
U go girl!
Oh, I didn’t remember all the questions: They were 60 questions all in all, and I decided not to waste any more brain-space than I already have.
Is this even effective at all, considering that the target audience is a bunch of cynical, overworked doctor wannabes?
Judging from the reaction of the audience, I’d say not. There was a presenter who tried to “facilitate” a discussion on the social contract, ie. to bring us round to his way of thinking. When he didn’t make any headway after 2 hours, he lengthened his presentation by another half an hour. At 11 at night, that move didn’t endear him to us or make his message any more palatable.
You actually could remember these questions??
I couldn’t be bothered actually …. in fact I don’t even know what I answered.
I was half asleep or having a hangover during most of the dreadfully boring, nonsensical and torturous sessions.
In fact, i think the cool (sole) non-Malay/ Chinese in the whole “indoctrination” session, dished out the answers required before the test!!
LOL.
I hope you and your group made that BTN guy feel as stupid as he is. Perhaps you should have suggested that they condense all the BTN principles into a little red book that BTN instructors can wave while mindlessly shrieking propaganda in a constipated voice.
Good luck with your career, Sheena, may you always be as clear-minded as you are now.
Just wasting our time here, whining, whining and whining…. so.. what’s next? Keep on whining?
